“The Science of Beauty” Initiative

The program aims to spark curiosity, foster innovation, and encourage inclusivity within STEM and beauty sciences.

Bang The Gavel -A Court Day Lunch & Learn Series – Fulton County Magistrate Court.

Audience - Middle & High School Students

  • Program Description:

    The Gavel – A Court Day Lunch & Learn Series is an immersive educational program developed in partnership with the Magistrate Court of Fulton County to expose middle and high school students (grades 6-12) from the metro Atlanta area to careers in the judiciary. This one-day event, held during the winter in February, is designed to foster interest in the legal field and provide students with hands-on learning experiences in a real-world setting

  • Program Objectives:

      To educate students on the functions of the judiciary, particularly the Magistrate Court, and the types of cases it handles.To inspire students to consider judicial careers by offering direct interaction with legal professionals, including judges, and exposing them to various legal proceedings.To provide students with practical insights into the judicial process through observation and participation in engaging activities.
  • Program Activities:

    1. Courtroom Observation: Students will witness live civil and criminal proceedings, gaining an understanding of the court's role and procedures.

  • Target Audience and Demographics:

    This program specifically targets middle and high school students, ages 11-18, from diverse backgrounds across the metro Atlanta area. The program will prioritize outreach to underrepresented communities, aiming to diversify the pipeline of students interested in legal careers by highlighting the accessibility and variety of roles within the judiciary.

  • Expected Outcomes:

      Increased Awareness of Judicial Careers: Students will demonstrate a better understanding of the judiciary's role, types of court cases, and the career paths within the judicial system.Enhanced Interest in Legal Careers: Post-event surveys will measure students' interest in pursuing careers in law and the judiciary. The goal is to have at least 75% of participants express a desire to learn more about judicial careers after the program.Improved Knowledge of Judicial Processes: Students will show improved knowledge of courtroom protocols and legal terminology, assessed through pre- and post-event questionnaires.
